The 2016 Pantone Colour of the Year has been announced, and for the very first time it’s not one but two shades: Rose Quartz and Serenity. According to Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Colour Institute, these two shades promote “…wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.” The colours evoke images of nature: the sunset piercing through clouds, dusty pink flowers, and an expanse of blue sky. While it may seem like a design challenge to incorporate these pastel hues into your décor, we think it’s well worth it.
Here are our top five suggestions for bringing Rose Quartz and Serenity into your home for a calmer, more tranquil 2016.
1. Serene Window Treatments
Up your window design game by making Serenity your colour of choice for bedroom window treatments. Whether you go with gauzy sheers or a weightier fabric, blue tones help to filter harsh light without blocking it out completely. The gentle, soothing tone of Serenity will also bring a sense calm to your bedroom, helping you to nod off with ease.
2. Tranquility in the Living Room
Pink isn’t just for little girls’ bedrooms, it can also add an elegant touch to any room in the house. Create a tranquil living room space to welcome friends and family by painting your walls Rose Quartz. Make windows pop by pairing your new wall colour with a strong accent colour on the mouldings. 3. The Perfect Accessories
You can easily incorporate Rose Quartz and Serenity into your home décor without making drastic changes to the overall design aesthetic of your home. Accent pillows and textiles can refresh a space quickly and cheaply and are easy to swap out when you’re ready for a change.
4. A Pop of Exterior Colour
When choosing to add a pop of colour to the exterior of your home, both Serenity and Rose Quartz are bold, unique choices. Try using these hues on the trim around windows and doors, or make a splash by upgrading your front door design with either of these fresh, clean colours.
5. On-Trend Landscaping
If you’re not up for a bold transformation to your home’s exterior, you can still increase curb appeal by subtly introducing the Pantone 2016 colours into your landscaping. To evoke Serenity, try planting flowers like forget-me-nots, delphiniums or veronicas. Soft pink roses perfectly match the Rose Quartz hue, as do peonies and hydrangeas.
